Balance is a distinguished aquaculture specialist with a rich background in urban food systems. Currently serving as a Food Systems Officer at ICLEI, she plays a pivotal role in spearheading multicounty urban food systems projects and is the driving force behind ICLEI’s CityFood program.

Her journey began in the vibrant city of Durban, South Africa, where she championed research methodologies to bolster food systems. Her commitment to sustainable agriculture shone through as she empowered smallholder initiatives, educated communities with hands-on training in edible fish cultivation, and provided invaluable insights on sustainability.

Armed with an MBA, Balance has also delved deep into research, with her project “Investigating factors that affect the sustainability of urban agriculture: a case study of Kwa-Mashu, eThekwini Municipality” standing as a testament to her dedication.
